Malaysia is a diverse country with multicultural citizens. The Mandarin-speaking community makes up a large part of the population in the country. So naturally, there was a gap in the entertainment in Mandarin!
In 1995, a Media company decided to launch a channel that included Mandarin. They started the broadcast of a channel named MetroVision. The channel had a mix of Chinese and English programming. The target audience of this channel was he upper class and urban communities of Malaysia.
However, due to various issues, MetroVision was shut down after running for a few years. Prime Media took this as a golden opportunity and bought the rights to MetroVision in 2004. They rebranded it as 8TV and started the Live broadcast.
Target Audience of 8 TV
After 8 TV was rebranded, they separated the English content. 8 TV is completely a Mandarin channel with various programs from China as well as various local productions.
This has limited the channel’s audience to the Mandarin community.
The content of this channel is also suitable for the international Chinese. 8TV is, therefore, famous in countries as large as China.
