It is the broadcast arm of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, based on the campus at Bandar Baru Nilai in Negeri Sembilan, and it reaches viewers online rather than through any transmitter. The stream is playing on this page – free, with nothing to install and no account to create.

01 — University

The University Behind the Channel

USIM began in 1998 as Kolej Universiti Islam Malaysia, or KUIM. It was upgraded to full university status and renamed Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia on 1 February 2007, then granted autonomy in 2015.

Its permanent campus has been at Bandar Baru Nilai since 2005, after early years spread across temporary sites in Kuala Lumpur and Ampang. The medical faculty stayed behind in Ampang.

It is a mid-sized institution – somewhere around eight thousand students – with a motto that states its intentions plainly enough: knowledgeable, disciplined and devout.

02 — Philosophy

What “Islamic Science” Means Here

The name is worth pausing on, because it is not decorative.

USIM’s stated aim is to be a global reference centre for Islamic science, and its objectives include integrating Islamic studies into mainstream Malaysian education rather than keeping the two on separate tracks. Religious scholarship and modern technical disciplines are meant to share an institution and inform one another.

That philosophy shapes what comes out of the university’s channel. The material is academic and institutional rather than commercial – an institution explaining itself and its work, instead of chasing ratings.

03 — Languages

Three Languages on Campus

One of USIM’s stated objectives is developing proficiency in Arabic, English and Malay.

That trilingual footing is uncommon even among Malaysian universities, and it matters for anything the institution broadcasts. A campus teaching across three languages tends to produce media across them too.

04 — Platform

Where USIM TV Lives

USIM TV has no frequency and no place on the terrestrial dial. It operates online, through the university’s own channels, produced from the Nilai campus.

Television is not the university’s only broadcast venture, either – USIM runs campus radio alongside it, with its own studio facilities.

Set-ups like this usually serve two purposes at once: putting an institution’s work in front of people outside it, and giving students somewhere to learn how broadcasting actually gets made.

05 — Access

A Campus Channel, Open to Anyone

University channels are often assumed to be for the university – students, staff, alumni and nobody else. In practice an online channel has no such boundary.

Anyone curious about how an Islamic science university operates, what it teaches, or what campus life there looks like can simply watch. There is no enrolment requirement and nothing to pay.

It runs in a browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV, wherever there is an internet connection.

07 — Final word

Conclusion

USIM TV will never be mistaken for a national broadcaster, and it is not trying to be. It exists to show what one university does, in that university’s own words.

Leave it playing and you get exactly that – a look inside an institution that set out to hold religious scholarship and modern science in the same place, and has been at it since 1998.
