Borneo TV Live Streaming

Every other channel has a frequency. A transmitter somewhere on a hill, a map of where the signal lands and where it gives out, a number to tune to.

Borneo.TV has none of that. It was built as a stream and nothing else – and it is among the newest things on Malaysian screens, set up in the middle of 2025 to put Sabah’s stories in front of the rest of the world. The stream is playing on this page, free, with nothing to install and no account to create.

01 — Launch

Launched in 2025, and Still New

Borneo.TV went live on 1 July 2025, launched in Kota Kinabalu by Sabah’s Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The launch came with a memorandum of understanding between the Sabah Maju Jaya secretariat and the company running the platform, tying it to the state’s Sabah Maju Jaya Roadmap and its push to build up a creative economy.

By the standards of the channels around it, that makes Borneo.TV extremely young. Most Malaysian broadcasters measure their history in decades. This one is still assembling its library.

02 — Ownership

Government Blessing, Private Money

The arrangement behind it is worth a moment, because it is not the usual one.

Borneo.TV was launched by the Chief Minister and sits inside a state development roadmap, yet it is operated by IB Media Consultant Work Sdn Bhd and runs without state funding.

That combination – official endorsement, private balance sheet – is uncommon in Malaysian broadcasting, where channels tend to be either state-run or straightforwardly commercial.

03 — Mission

Cerita Sabah di Mata Dunia

The platform’s slogan translates roughly as Sabah’s stories in the eyes of the world, and it describes the brief accurately.

The content is built around original documentaries, arts and cultural programming, and features on Sabah’s natural environment – the rainforest, the coast, the mountains that outside coverage of the state usually reduces to a postcard.

The stated aim is authenticity: Sabah described by people from Sabah, rather than filtered through a visiting crew.

04 — Creators

A Platform for Sabah’s Own Creators

At the launch, the Chief Minister put the invitation plainly, encouraging artists, digital influencers and people working in Sabah’s creative industry to bring their work to the platform.

That is the part which separates Borneo.TV from a conventional channel. It is not only somewhere to watch things. It is meant to be somewhere local film-makers and content creators can place work that would otherwise sit unseen on a personal channel.

05 — Streaming

Nothing to Tune

Because the platform was built as a stream, the usual questions never arise. There is no frequency for your area, no transmitter that might not reach you, no part of the country that falls out of range.

It runs in a browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV, wherever there is an internet connection. For a channel whose entire purpose is to be seen outside Sabah, that is the only distribution model that would have made sense.

06 — FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who runs Borneo.TV?

IB Media Consultant Work Sdn Bhd, operating it without state government funding.

When did it launch?

1 July 2025, in Kota Kinabalu.

Who launched it?

Sabah’s Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

What can I watch on it?

Original documentaries, arts and cultural programming, and features on Sabah’s landscapes and natural environment.

Is it a TV channel or a streaming service?

A streaming platform. It uses over-the-top delivery rather than conventional broadcasting, so no frequency or transmitter is involved.

Is it only for viewers in Sabah?

No – rather the opposite. It was set up specifically to reach viewers beyond the state.

Does watching cost anything?

No. The stream is free, with nothing to install and no sign-up.

07 — Final word

Conclusion

Borneo.TV is young enough that judging it against broadcasters with fifty years behind them would be unfair. The library is still filling, and what the platform becomes depends largely on how many of Sabah’s film-makers take up the offer.

What is already clear is the intention. Most channels point inward, talking to the people who live where the transmitter is. This one points outward, and asks the rest of the world to look.
