History Of Astro Awani

Astro Satellite TV Network developed Astro Awani. It first started operating in Indonesia in 2006. There was a gap for 24-hour news coverage in Malaysia. Taking advantage of the gap, Astro Awani started its broadcast in 2007. It was an alternative to the government-owned news channels such as RTM and TV3. Both of the channels had designated slots for news. Astro Awani began 24-hour news coverage which was a new concept at the time. 

As more time passed, Astro Awani expanded its programs and started heavily focusing on current affairs and talk shows. These analytical programs were meant to guide the audience about local political developments. 

To keep up with the changing times and digitalization of the media, Astro Awani launched a mobile app in 2013. This marked a significant change in the status of Astro Awani from just a news channel to a complete platform with user-friendly features. 

The biggest achievement of Astro Awani so far has been launching a complete digital streaming platform in 2020 during COVID-19. It was called Astro Awani 2.0. The purpose of the platform was to make it easier for Malaysian and international audiences to access the latest news and shows.
